What Is the Refurbishment Process for Used Heavy-Duty Trucks Exported from China?

At our used-truck refurbishment factory in Jinan, Shandong, every truck moves through the same standardised production sequence. The engine undergoes remanufacturing, while the gearbox and axles are refurbished. Other components are assessed for wear and are either refurbished or replaced with new parts as needed. The work ends with final assembly and inspection of the refurbished truck.
The photographs below show different trucks and stations in the factory. They illustrate the process, but they are not a continuous photo record of one vehicle.
1 Recovered trucks enter the line
The red HOWO dump trucks pictured outside are recovered used vehicles before refurbishment. From this starting point, each truck follows the factory line rather than a separate process chosen from its exterior appearance.

2 Inspection and disassembly
Every truck passes through the initial inspection and disassembly stage. Technicians prepare the vehicle and its assemblies for the work that follows. The production stages are fixed, even though the wear found on individual parts differs from one truck to another.

3 Engine remanufacturing
The engine undergoes remanufacturing on every truck. This work is part of the standard line, not an optional repair that depends on whether the exterior looks worn.

After this stage, the engine returns to vehicle assembly along with the other prepared systems.

4 Gearbox and axle refurbishment
The gearbox and axles are refurbished as part of the standard process for every truck. They are handled as major assemblies before installation and connection during vehicle assembly. The photograph below shows axle and suspension assemblies; it does not, by itself, document the internal work carried out on the gearbox.

5 Decisions on other components
Parts outside the three major assemblies are not all treated in the same way. After assessing their wear, the factory decides which parts can be refurbished and which should be replaced with new ones. This is why a standard production route does not mean an identical replacement-parts list for every vehicle.

6 Chassis and cab assembly
Prepared components return to the chassis for assembly. The engine, gearbox, axles, cab and other relevant systems are brought together in sequence until they form a complete truck.

7 Final assembly and inspection
Every truck reaches the final assembly and inspection stage after the preceding stations. At this point, the remanufactured engine, refurbished gearbox and axles, and other refurbished or new parts have been assembled into a refurbished vehicle. The exact parts fitted and the work performed on them belong to the record for that specific truck.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every truck pass through every stage?
Yes. Every truck follows the same standardised sequence, from the incoming-vehicle stage through major-assembly work, vehicle assembly and final inspection. The condition of individual parts can still differ.
Are the engine, gearbox and axles included on every truck?
Yes. The engine undergoes remanufacturing, while the gearbox and axles are refurbished as part of the standard process.
Are all other parts replaced with new ones?
No. The decision for other parts depends on their wear: some are refurbished and others are replaced with new parts.
